In the gritty and action-packed thriller Jailor, Rajinikanth plays a retired police officer and prison warden who is forced to return to work when an evil crime boss threatens his family. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie also stars Vinayakan, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, and Vasant Ravi.
The movie opens with the retired policeman and prison warden Muthu "Tiger" Pandian (Rajinikanth) and his grandson Hrithik (Hrithik Jothi Raj) living a peaceful life. Their tranquility is disturbed, however, when Muthu's son Arjun (Vasant Ravi), who is kidnapped by the brutal criminal lord Varman (Vinayakan), is threatened with death if Muthu does not help him escape from prison.
Burman initially rejects Muthu's offer to help him, but after threatening Ritvik with death, Muthu relents. Muthu breaks into the prison and helps Burman escape, but he quickly becomes embroiled in a brutal confrontation between Burman and his rival.
Jailer is a non-stop action movie with lots of surprises. As Muthu, Rajinikanth is in fine form and delivers some of his famous lines. The supporting cast is likewise top-notch, with Vinaykon as Burman particularly formidable.
The movie doesn't shy away from violence, and the action scenes are enjoyable and well-choreographed. On the other hand, Zeller is also an unexpectedly emotional movie that tackles themes of family, revenge, and redemption.
The jailer is an overall well-made and enjoyable movie that would appeal to Rajinikanth and action movie enthusiasts. Although the movie has its share of shortcomings, overall it is a rewarding experience that is certain to stick with you.
